Nakilat LNG carrier

QatarEnergy awarded the local gas shipping giant Nakilat to operate its 25 newbuildings

QatarEnergy awarded the local gas shipping giant Nakilat to operate its 25 newbuildings within the Middle Eastern country’s second phase of a massive LNG shipbuilding program.

The shipping operator will take the ownership of 174,000 cbm units, ordered in South Korea and will charter them to affiliates of QatarEnergy.

The deal with Nakilat, which currently has 69 LNG carriers, is QatarEnergy’s first award in the second batch of long-term charters, and the company said there will be more to follow.

Hanwha Ocean, a Korean shipyard, is poised to finalize its agreement with QatarEnergy for the construction of 174,000 cbm newbuildings. These vessels are designated to support the nation’s LNG expansion endeavors and fleet modernization needs. Additionally, the state-operated LNG producer has recently entered into a contract with China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for the construction of eight Q-Max vessels, each boasting a capacity of 271,000 cbm, marking the largest units ever ordered in this sector.
